AN ACT

 

amending section 28-643, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to traffic signs, signals and markings.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 28-643, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE28-643.  Local traffic control devices; yellow signals

A.  except as provided in subsection B, local authorities in their respective jurisdictions shall place and maintain the traffic control devices on highways under their jurisdiction as they deem necessary to indicate and to carry out this chapter or local traffic ordinances or to regulate, warn or guide traffic.  All traffic control devices erected shall conform to the manual and specifications prescribed in section 28-641.

B.  Except as otherwise provided by this subsection, on or before January 1, 2007, each local authority shall make the duration of the steady yellow signal not less than four seconds on each traffic control device on any highway under its jurisdiction.  A city council may waive the requirement of this subsection for an intersection if the city council finds by a majority vote that there is good cause for the waiver.
