SUBJECT: Strike Everything Amendment to H.B. 2133
Purpose
Increases the purse amount paid to the owners of successful greyhounds from 4.75 percent to 4.76 percent of the gross pari-mutuel pool in a county of 1.5 million or more.
Background
In Arizona, dog track betting is conducted under a pari-mutuel system. In pari-mutuel betting, the track pools the money wagered on a particular race and then distributes the pool among the bettors, depending on the outcome of the race. Before distributing money to the bettors, certain amounts are deducted from the gross pool. These deductions go the track as profit, to the State of Arizona and to the owners of successful greyhounds as purse money. The amounts of these deductions are specified in statute.
The strike everything amendment to H.B. 2133 increases the purse amount paid to the owners of successful greyhounds from 4.75 percent to 4.76 percent of the gross pari-mutuel pool in a county of 1.5 million or more.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state general fund relating to the provisions of this bill.

1. Increases the purse amount paid to the owners of successful greyhounds from 4.75 percent to 4.76 percent of the gross pari-mutuel pool in a county of 1.5 million or more.
