ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
school
facilities board; technical correction
(now: school districts; boundary adjustment)
Allows governing boards of a unified school district and adjacent common and union high school districts to authorize minor boundary adjustments to three school districts if specified requirements are met. Stipulates if there are no electors within the geographic boundaries of the territory being annexed, a majority of the property owners may submit a petition.
Current law allows school district governing boards of two adjacent common, union or unified school districts to authorize minor boundary adjustments to both school districts, provided statutorily prescribed requirements are met (A.R.S. 15-460). H.B. 2084 addresses the authorization of minor boundary adjustments where there are three adjacent school districts, including common and union school districts and a unified school district.
Additionally, the authorization process prescribed in statute requires a majority of the electors within the geographic boundaries of a portion of a school district, specified in the petition, to present a petition to the school district governing boards of both the school district which the petitioners currently reside and the school district to which the petitioners desire to be annexed. H.B. 2084 also addresses situations where there are no electors within the geographic boundaries of the portion of the school district considered for annexation, allowing a majority of the property owners in that area to submit a petition.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state general fund associated with this bill.
