ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
appropriation;
Nogales food bank
Appropriates $500,000 in FY 2002-2003 from the state general fund to the Department of Economic Security (DES) for distribution to the City of Nogales to purchase a food bank warehouse.
According to the City of Nogales, the Borderland Food Bank received, warehoused and distributed 20 million pounds of fresh produce in calendar year 2001, most of which was distributed to entities throughout Arizona outside of Santa Cruz County. The produce is distributed through the Arizona Gleaning Project of the Association of Arizona Food Banks. Borderland Food Bank is currently housed in a rented warehouse, with a lease that expires in May 2002. The City requests funds to purchase a warehouse that is larger and in better condition than the rented warehouse.
The proposed legislation appropriates $500,000 in FY 2002-2003 from the state general fund to DES for distribution to the City of Nogales for the purchase of a warehouse for the Borderland Food Bank.
