joint legislative committee on homelessness

 

Purpose

 

Codifies and extends by ten years the Joint Legislative Committee on Homelessness.

 

Background

 

Established in 1999 and extended in Laws 2000 and 2001, the Joint Legislative Committee on Homelessness:  (1) serves as a public forum for the purpose of discussing issues regarding current and potential services and programs to reduce homelessness and to assist the homeless; (2) advises the private sector and the executive branch of government of programs and policies pertaining to homelessness; (3) reviews homelessness programs and services to ensure efficient and coordinated use of resources.

 

S.B. 1138 adds the Committee to statute and extends it for ten years.

 

There is no fiscal impact associated with this bill. 

 

Provisions

 

1.      Codifies the Joint Legislative Committee on Homelessness.

 

2.      Extends the Committee by ten years with a delayed repeal of December 31, 2012.

 

3.      Instructs the Committee to submit an annual report to the Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate on or before December 31 of each year.

 

4.      Provides for a general effective date.
