SB 1243 continues the Arizona Board of Regents (Board) until July 1, 2012.
SB 1243 passed the Education Committee unamended.
The Auditor General issued a performance audit report and sunset review of ABOR in September of 2001. In December, the House of Representatives and Senate Committees of Reference met to consider the sunset review and adopted a recommendation to extend the termination date for the Arizona Board of Regents for an additional 10 years.
ABOR governs and provides policy guidance to the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University as well as their extended campuses. The current termination date for ABOR is July 1, 2002. ABOR has oversight in the following areas within the public university system in Arizona:
· Appointment of University Presidents.
· Academic and student policies and programs.
· Financial policies and procedures.
· Student tuition.
· Fees and financial aid.
· Capital projects.
· Strategic planning.
· Legal affairs.
· Internal audit services.
· Public and governmental outreach.
· Policies and benefits for university employees.
