HB 2614 modifies the use of an applicant’s Social Security Number (SSN) on hunting and fishing licenses issued through the Game and Fish Department (Department).

History

Current law requires each licensing board or agency that issues any type of license or certificate to record the applicant’s SSN in its database.  This information is used to aid the Department of Economic Security in locating parents or their assets or to enforce child support orders.

All license applications through the Department request the applicant’s SSN. The applicant’s SSN is used as the drawing number in the automated drawing system.  The Department, upon request from an applicant, will assign an alternate Department Identification Number that will be used on the license instead of the applicant’s SSN.  If an applicant chooses to use an alternate number, the SSN is still required for the license or permit application.

Provisions

·        Requires the Department to use an identification number other than the person’s SSN on the face of the license or tag.

·        Stipulates then when a SSN is required by an application for a license or tag through the Department, the applicant’s SSN will be entered into the Department’s database.

·        Makes technical and conforming changes
