HB 2485 revises the definition of full-time instructional program with regard to school finance.

 

History

Current statute defines full-time instructional program as at least four subjects, each of which, if taught each school day for the minimum number of days required in a school year, through FY  2000-01, would meet a minimum of 120 hours a year, or the equivalent, or one or more subjects taught in amounts of time totaling at least 20 hours per week prorated for any week with fewer than five school days. In FY 2001-02 and 2002-03, each subject shall meet at least 122 hours. In FY 2003-04 and each fiscal year thereafter, each subject shall meet at least 123 hours.

 

For grades nine, ten and eleven, the total program shall meet at least:

·          880 hours in FY 2001-02.

·          885 hours in FY 2002-03.

·          890 hours in FY 2003-04.

·          895 hours in FY 2004-05.

·          900 hours in FY 2005-06.

 

Provisions

·          Changes the yearly total hour requirement during the minimum number of days required for a full-time instructional program to equal the minimum number of subjects multiplied by the number of school days in the year as follows:

·           to at least 704 hours in FY 2001-02.

·           to at least 708 hours in FY 2002-03.

·           to at least 712 hours in FY 2003-04.

·           to at least 716 hours in FY 2004-05.

·           to at least 720 hours in FY 2005-06.

·          Provides that a full-time instructional program must include at least four subjects taught each school day for the minimum number of days required in a school year.  Each subject must meet at least:

·          120 hours a year in FY 2000-01.

·          122 hours a year in FY 2001-02 and FY 2002-03 or the equivalent.

·          123 hours a year in FY 2003-04 and each fiscal year thereafter or the equivalent.

·          The equivalent to the above provisions is one or more subjects taught 20 hours per week prorated for any week with fewer than five school days.
