HB 2483 reduces the civil penalties pertaining to vehicle registration and vehicle insurance violations.

 

Current Status

HB 2483 passed the Transportation Committee unamended.  HB 2483 passed the Appropriations Committee unamended.  HB 2483 passed the Committee of the Whole unamended.

 

History

Currently the civil penalty for a vehicle registration violation is $350.00. This penalty may be reduced to $50.00 if the person registers the vehicle. The current civil penalty for the first offense

of operating a vehicle without liability insurance is $250.00. The second offense causes a civil penalty of $500.00 and the third offense is a $750.00 fine.

 

Provisions

·          Decreases civil penalty for operating an unregistered vehicle from $350.00 to $150.00

·          Decreases civil penalty for the first offense for operating a vehicle without liability insurance from $250.00 to $150.00.
