HB 2471 makes a technical correction regarding public transportation authorities.

A strike everything amendment will be offered in the Transportation Committee with the following provisions:

The strike-everything amendment proposed for House Bill 2471 adds the term “limitation” to notifications mailed by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) for the purpose of informing a person that MVD has imposed a condition on the person’s driver license.  The term “limitation” applies to Ignition Interlock Devices (IIDs) that drivers convicted of certain driving under the influence (DUI) violations must install as a condition of reinstating their driver license.

History

An IID is a device that connects a breath analyzer to a motor vehicle's ignition system.  The IID monitors the concentration of alcohol in the breath of any person attempting to start the motor vehicle and only allows the ignition to start if the weight of alcohol in the person's breath is below a preset level.  Current statute specifies that a person is required to use an IID on a vehicle for one-year following license suspension or revocation for specified DUI offenses.
