As Passed the House

HB 2420 changes the name of Vocational and Technological (or Technical) Education to Career and Technical Education and Vocational Education to conform with federal law.

History

Arizona has provided vocational education since the adoption of the Vocational Education Act of 1917.  Although the State Board for Vocational and Technological Education (SBVTE) was sunset in 1999 and repealed from statute on January 1, 2000, the responsibilities were transferred to the State Board for Education (SBE).  Members of the SBE additionally served as members of the SBVTE.  HB 2420 makes technical and conforming changes to clarify that the SBE shall assume the responsibilities of the SBVTE.

Provisions

·          Transfers the responsibilities of the SBVTE to the SBE in statute.

·          Conforms statute with federal law by changing Vocational and Technological (or Technical) Education to Career and Technical Education and Vocational Education.

·          Removes the definition of vocational and technical education and defines career and technical education and vocational education.

·          Makes technical and conforming changes.
