HB 2404 clarifies that betting over the Internet constitutes gambling.
The Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology adopted a strike everything amendment to HB 2404 and returned the bill with a do pass, as amended, recommendation.
The Arizona Department of Liquor is responsible for regulating the liquor industry through the license control process and the collection of fees and taxes for the maintenance of government and enforcing statutes in order to maintain the health and welfare of the community. Current law outlines specific grounds by which the Director of the department may suspend, revoke or refuse to renew a liquor license. The strike everything amendment will include, knowingly allowing a person to gamble over the Internet on the licensed premises, as grounds for suspension revocation or non-renewal a liquor license.
Provisions

States
that a licensee who installs computer kiosks, or other computerized equipment,
and knowingly permits a customer to place a bet or wager over the Internet on
the licensed premises, may face suspension, revocation, or non-renewal of a
liquor license by the Department of Liquor.
· Provides that betting or wagering on live, or simulcast pari-mutuel racing, conducted at permitted facilities, is not prohibited by this bill.
· Makes technical and conforming changes.
