HB 2317 establishes the alternative fuels safety study committee to review safety concerns associated with alternative fuel vehicles.  The committee terminates December 31, 2002.

 

Current Status

The bill passed the Environment Committee unamended,

 

Provisions

§         The committee is comprised of the following members:

-          Three senators appointed by the President, one of whom shall be the cochair.

-          Three representatives appointed by the Speaker, one of whom shall be the cochair.

-         The director of the DEQ or the director’s designee.

-         The director of the ADOT or the director’s designee.

-          A representative of the alternative fuel vehicle manufacturing industry appointed by the Speaker.

-          A safety expert on alternative fuels appointed by the President.

-          A representative of consumers, appointed jointly by the Speaker and President.

§         No compensation will be provided to the committee members with the exception of the alternative fuel vehicle manufacturing industry representative, the safety expert on alternative fuels, and the consumer representative who are entitled to reimbursement of expenses.

§         The committee shall make recommendations on the following:

-         Warranties on new manufactured alternative fuel vehicles and conversions.

-         Consumer information, training, and safety related to alternative fuel vehicles.

-         Routine safety inspections.

§         The committee shall also examine:

-         Warning labels.

-         Registration of dealers and repair and service stations for alternative fuel vehicles. 

-         Refueling stations safety issues.

-         Other issues the committee deems relevant.

§         The committee is required to submit a report on findings and recommendations on or before December 31, 2002 and terminates on that date.
