HB 2238 establishes that the Department of Transportation shall issue Navajo Nation special license plates.

Current status

HB 2238 passed the Native American Affairs Committee unamended.

Provisions

· Requires that the Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) issue Navajo nation special plates by January 1, 2003.

· Specifies that of the $25 fee, eight dollars is a special plate administration fee and seventeen dollars is an annual donation.

· Stipulates that MVD shall deposit all special plate administration fees into the state highway fund and all of the donations to the Navajo Nation Department of Highway Safety.

· Authorizes the Navajo nation to use these monies only for traffic control devices for highways on the reservation.

· Makes technical and conforming changes.
