HB 2058 makes an appropriation for a Navajo code talkers monument.

 

Current status

HB 2058 was amended in the Native American Affairs Committee to change the monument from a Navajo code talkers monument to a Native American code talkers monument.  HB 2058 was amended in the Military, Veterans’ Affairs & Aviation Committee to strike the amount of the appropriation.  HB 2058 was withdrawn from Appropriations.  HB 2058 was passed in the Committee of the Whole as amended in the Native American Affairs Committee and with a substituted floor amendment to the Military, Veterans’ Affairs & Aviation Committee amendment which retitles the section heading and simplifies the bill to state that it is proposed that a Navajo Code Talkers monument be established in Wesley Bolin Plaza.

 

Provisions

·                      Appropriates $100,000 from the state general fund in fiscal year 2002-03 to the Department of Administration.

·                      Provides that the appropriated money shall be used for the establishment of a Navajo code talkers monument in Wesley Bolin plaza.

·                      Exempts the appropriation from lapsing.

 

Amendments

HB 2058 was amended in the Native American Affairs Committee as follows:

·        Provides that the appropriated money shall be used for the establishment of a Native American code-talkers monument, instead of a Navajo code talkers monument.

 

HB 2058 was amended in the Military, Veterans’ Affairs & Aviation Committee as follows:

·        Strikes the $100,000 appropriation amount.

 

A substitute amendment to the Military, Veterans’ Affairs & Aviation amendment was offered in the Committee of the Whole as follows:

·        Retitles the section heading from Appropriation; purpose; exemption to Purpose.

·        Simplifies the bill to state that it is proposed that a Navajo Code Talkers monument be established in Wesley Bolin Plaza.
