HB 2055 establishes an advisory committee within the State Board of Education that meets at least quarterly to study issues relating to Native American student’s academic performance and governance and administrative issues on school districts located on Indian reservations in Arizona.

 

Current Status

HB 2055 passed the Native American Affairs Committee unamended.  HB 2055 passed the Education Committee with a strike-everything amendment that establishes an advisory committee within the State Board of Education that meets at least quarterly to study issues relating to Native American student’s academic performance and governance and administrative issues on school districts located on Indian reservations in Arizona.  The Committee of the Whole adopted the Education Committee amendment.

 

Provisions

·          Establishes an advisory committee within the State Board of Education to study issues relating to Native American student’s academic performance for students located on and off reservations.  Additionally, the advisory committee is required to study governance and administrative issues on school districts located on Indian reservations in Arizona.  The advisory committee must meet at least quarterly.

 

Amendments

HB 2055 was amended in the Education Committee with a strike-everything amendment as follows:

·          Establishes an advisory committee within the State Board of Education to study issues relating to Native American student’s academic performance for students located on and off reservations.  Additionally, the advisory committee is required to study governance and administrative issues on school districts located on Indian reservations in Arizona.  The advisory committee must meet at least quarterly.

 

The Education Committee amendment was adopted in the Committee of the Whole.
