ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
appropriation; criminal
justice records
Purpose
Appropriates $350,000 from
the state general fund in FY 2001-2002 to the Arizona Criminal Justice
Commission (ACJC) to match federal monies for the criminal justice records
integration project.
Background
Arizona law requires that
information from criminal history records be used for court decisions including
those concerning bail, sentence enhancement and probation. However, according to ACJC, currently only
about 59 percent of criminal justice records are accurate and complete. In an effort to improve the accuracy and
accessibility of criminal justice records in Arizona, the ACJC is seeking a
$3.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Initially, grant monies will be used to
analyze current infrastructure, data availability and estimated costs to fully
implement the criminal justice records integration project. Ultimately the project will involve
integrating municipal, county and state criminal justice records and making the
information accessible to law enforcement officers, prosecutors and the courts.
H.B. 2269 appropriates
$350,000 from the state general fund to provide required matching monies for
the federal grant.
