disorders
Appropriates $1 million in
each of FY 2001-2002 and FY 2002-2003 from the state general fund to the University
of Arizona for the Center for Neurogenic Communication Disorders.
Neurogenic
communication disorders are speech and language disorders caused by diseases of
the nervous system, such as: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, muscular
dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and developmental brain disorders. The University of
Arizona’s Center for Neurogenic Communication Disorders (Center) is headed by
the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences and utilizes faculty from nine
other university departments. Center provides research training, continuing
education, and information for parents, patients, and caregivers.
Center has been funded by
various grants, primarily by a National Multipurpose Research and Training
Center grant from the National Institutes of Health. S.B. 1534 appropriates $1 million in both FY 2001-2002 and FY
2002-2003 from the state general fund to the University of Arizona for the
Center for Neurogenic Communication Disorders.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $1 million in each of FY 2001-2002 and FY 2002-2003 from the state general fund to the University of Arizona for the Center for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. Exempts the appropriations from lapsing.
2. Provides for a general effective date.
