FACT SHEET FOR S.B. 1336

 

Appropriation; Kayenta projects

 

Purpose

 

            Appropriates $5,469,892 in FY 2001-2002 from the state general fund to the Department of Economic Security (DES) for Navajo Kayenta Chapter construction projects.

 

Background

 

            The Kayenta Chapter House is one of 110 Navajo Nation Chapters.  Similar to a political subdivision, the delegate representing the district works for the community to obtain government services and assistance.  Located in Kaibeto, Arizona the Kayenta Chapter is part of the Navajo Western Agency.   While the Navajo Nation is able to provide funding for Navajo programs, the Kayenta Chapter seeks additional support for proposed projects.

 

            S.B.  1336 appropriates $5,469,892 in FY 2001-2002 from the state general fund to DES for Navajo Kayenta Chapter construction projects.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Appropriates $5,469,892 in FY 2001-2002 from the state general fund to DES for Navajo Kayenta Chapter construction projects. Appropriates the following:

 

a.       $400,000 for a pedestrian walkway across the Laguna Creek Bridge

b.      $200,000 for repairs or replacements of the senior citizen center

c.       $928,642 for a school district access road

d.      $3,816,250 for renovations of the school district pool roof

e.       $125,000 for replacing the Headstart administrative office

 

2.      Exempts the appropriation from lapsing.

 

3.      Provides for a general effective date.
