Background

As part of the Steele Indian School Park, the Arizona American Indian Tourism Association (AAITA) won a bid from the City of Phoenix to renovate the dining hall of the former Phoenix Indian School to establish the Native American Cultural and Tourism Center.

The City of Phoenix will assume costs for stabilizing the structure and restoring the original finish.  AAITA has assumed financial responsibility for renovating the interior of the building and managing the cultural center.  The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will maintain all exterior improvements.
