ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
vending machines; burglary
tools
Clarifies
that possession of instruments used to commit criminal damage to or theft from
a vending machine is a class 6 felony.
According
to the Arizona Soft Drink Association, two of the major soft drink companies in
Arizona lost, in actual stolen cash, over $1 million each in 2000 due to theft
from soft drink vending machines. The
additional loss to these companies in product sales while machines were being
repaired or replaced was approximately $500,000 total in the same year, not
including losses due to activity involving vending machines that sell other
types of products.
Tools
used for burglarizing vending machines include stolen vending machine keys,
lock picks, drills with titanium drill bits used for drilling locks, crowbars
and acetylene torches.
The
fiscal impact of this bill upon the state general fund is undetermined at this
time.
