ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
schools; district service
programs
Allows
school district governing boards to provide and charge for goods or services to
the community at large.
Background
Arizona
law allows school district governing boards to contract its district services
with other district schools, departments, or other school districts as a way to
generate revenue (Laws 1996, Chapter 124).
S.B. 1160 allows school
district governing boards to contract district service programs other than
food, printing or transportation services with entities throughout the
community. For example, this bill
allows schools to provide services such as staff training and professional
development to private companies, or sell educational products developed by the
district to individuals and private companies for a cost. Such expansion to allow schools to provide
services to the community at large is an additional way for school district
governing boards to generate revenue.
The fiscal impact of this
bill, if any, cannot be determined at this time.
1. Allows school district governing boards to provide and charge for goods or service not including food, printing or transportation services to the community at large.
2. Removes the allowance that a school district governing board charge for district service programs on a cost reimbursement basis.
3. Contains a conforming change.
4. Provides for a general effective date.
Amendments
Adopted by Committee of the Whole
Allows school district governing boards to charge for educational products in addition to goods and services, but specifies that food, printing, or transportation services are not included.
