Purpose

Continues the Arizona Space Commission until July 1, 2011.

Background

In 1991, the Legislature established the Arizona Space Commission (Commission) to provide for a body to coordinate all space-related commercial and high technological partnerships in Arizona.  The Commission’s primary purpose is to provide expertise and advice to the State regarding space-related matters, and prepare plans for addressing the development of the space industry and other high technological industries in Arizona.

During the 2000 interim, the Senate Commerce, Agriculture and Natural Resources and the House of Representatives International Trade, Technology and Tourism Committees of Reference held a public hearing to review the Committee’s performance audit of the Commission. The Committees of Reference recommended the Commission be continued for ten years.

There is no fiscal impact to the state general fund associated with this bill.
