Arizona correctional industries program; personnel

 

Purpose

 

Expands the authorized uses of the Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) revolving fund from in-state travel to travel in general.  Appropriates $2,000,000 in FY 2001-2002 from the ACI revolving fund for substance abuse programs and continuing education for inmates.

 

Background

 

The Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) is authorized to establish an ACI revolving fund to pay for a variety of expenses.  Presently, in-state travel is authorized.  According to ADC, ACI currently seeks assistance with out-of-state travel from alternative sources.  ADC reports the present balance of the ACI revolving fund at approximately $7,000,000.

 

Appropriates $2,000,000 in FY 2001-2002 from the ACI revolving fund for substance abuse programs and continuing education for inmates.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Appropriates $2,000,000 in FY 2001-2002 from the ACI revolving fund for the following purposes:

 

a)      $1,000,000 for substance abuse programs and counseling for inmates.

b)      $1,000,000 for continuing education for inmates.

 

2.      Expands the uses of the ACI revolving fund from in-state travel to travel in general.

 

3.      Makes technical changes.

 

4.      Provides for a general effective date.
