ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
office of tourism;
continuation
Continues the Arizona Office
of Tourism until July 1, 2011.
In 1978, the Legislature
established the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) to promote and develop tourism
statewide. The AOT’s mission is to
expand the volume of tourism activity and related expenditures in the state in
order to enhance the economy, the stability of the work force and the standard of
living for all Arizonans.
The AOT’s primary
responsibilities include promoting and developing tourism business statewide,
conducting research and providing information and advice to the Governor, the
tourism industry and the public.
During the 2000 interim, the
Senate Commerce, Agriculture and Natural Resources and House of Representatives
International Trade, Technology and Tourism Committees of Reference held a
public hearing to review the performance audit prepared by the Office of the
Auditor General (OAG) of the AOT. The
Committees of Reference recommended the AOT be continued for ten years and that
the AOT and the OAG report back to the appropriate Committees of Reference in
two years on the agency’s compliance with the performance audit recommendations.
The budget for the AOT for
FY 2000-2001 was approximately $8.9 million.
1. Continues the AOT for ten years until July 1, 2011. This continuation is retroactive to July 1, 2001.
2. Makes technical and conforming changes.
