ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
Authorizes a county to pay jurors more than
the current $12 fee for each day's attendance in court.
Currently
jurors are paid $12 for each day’s attendance in court, plus mileage. S.B. 1009 authorizes counties to pay more
than the current $12 for each day of service.
Attendance includes the first day a juror is required to attend and
continues for each day until the juror is either temporarily or permanently
excused. If a juror is excused on the first day of appearance, the juror
receives a mileage reimbursement only.
The
Arizona Judicial Council projects this proposal would reduce the number of
jurors who request dismissal due to financial hardship, and thereby increase
participation and diversity.
There
is no anticipated fiscal impact to the general fund associated with this
legislation. However, counties may be impacted if they choose to pay jurors more
than $12 per day for service.
1. Authorizes counties to pay more than the current $12 fee per day for a juror's attendance in superior court or justice court.
2. Makes technical changes.
3. Provides for a general effective date.
Amendments
Adopted by Committee of the Whole
Removes the requirement that counties pay jurors $50 per day and allows counties to pay more than the current $12 per day.
