Continues the current $20.00
time payment fee imposed by the courts for any court ordered fine, penalty or
sanction not paid in full on the date of the court disposition.
A time payment fee is the fee imposed by the courts when fines, penalties or sanctions are not paid in full on the date of the court disposition. In 1997 the legislature increased the time payment fee from $12.00 to $20.00 for a period of two years (Laws 1997, Chapter 79). The increase in 1997 was proposed and approved in order to improve and advance court automation statewide. In 1999 the legislature continued the increase through December 13, 2001 (Laws 1999, Chapter 175).
S.B. 1007 would maintain the current $20.00 court time payment fee, rather than allowing the fee to revert to $12.00. If the bill is not enacted and the fee reverts to $12.00, the Administrative Office of the Courts projects that the revenues collected from time payment fees in fiscal years 2001-2002 for the judicial collection enhancement fund would be $1,060,396 less than if the time payment fee remains at the current $20.00 level.
1. Maintains the current court time payment fee of $20.00 imposed by the courts for any court ordered fine, sanction or penalty not paid in full on the date of the court disposition.
2. Makes technical and conforming changes.
3. Provides for a general effective date.
