SB 1537 appropriates up to $375,000 annually beginning in FY 2001-2002 from the tobacco tax medically needy account to programs providing detoxification services.

 

History

Current statute has AHCCCS administering up to $500,000 dollars per fiscal year towards pilot programs providing detoxification services to counties with a population of 500,000 persons or less.   Specifically targeted to receive the monies allocated in this bill are programs in Page and Yuma.

 

Provisions

·                      Appropriates up to $375,000 to programs that provide detoxification services from the tobacco tax medically needy account beginning FY 2001-2002.

·                      Allocates $250,000 of the appropriation to a program providing services through a long-term social model emphasizing rehabilitation.

·                      Allocates the remaining $125,000 to a program providing short-term detoxification services.

·                      Makes the appropriation annual thereafter.

·                      Removes the pilot status from the program.

 

SB 1537 passed the Health Committee amended as follows:

·                      Appropriates $500,000 instead of $375,000.

·                      Requires programs to have been providing detoxification services for the past 24 months and distributes the $500,000 appropriation equally between the programs.
