SB 1247 modifies the procedure to renew watercraft registration to include renewal by telecommunication.  Allows the Game and Fish Department to contract with a private vendor to provide the means for telecommunication renewals.

History

Currently, a watercraft owner must register a watercraft annually either by mail or by coming into any of the seven Department offices.  According to the Department, there are approximately 148,000 registered watercraft in Arizona and 120,000 renewals processed each year.

Laws 1999, Chapter 125 gave the Game and Fish Department authority to sell hunting and fishing licenses by telecommunication.

Provisions

·                    Allows the Department to adopt a rule that provides an exception to the requirement that each applicant sign an application for a watercraft renewal.

·                    Permits an agent that is under contract with the Department to perform watercraft renewal services by telecommunication and to charge additional fees as stipulated in the contract.
