SB 1223 makes various modifications to constables’ salaries, work records and training and establishes a Constables Ethics Committee.
Laws 2000, Chapter 237, Section 1 requires counties to redistrict on the first regularly scheduled meeting in June following the decennial census. A board of supervisors must hold public hearings throughout the county to discuss the proposed redistricting.
Currently certain states, including Arizona, must submit all changes in election law and procedures to the Federal Department of Justice as outlined in the Federal Voting Rights Act. All changes must be pre-cleared by the Justice Department to ensure that they do not violate race or minority status.
