SB 1201 appropriates $1,500,000 from the emergency medical services operating fund in FY 2001-2002 to the Department of Health Services (DHS) to distribute to rural areas to improve emergency medical services.  An additional $200,000 is appropriated from the fund in FY 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 to DHS to distribute to rural areas for increased costs associated with emergency medical services.

 

History

The emergency medical services operating fund is administered by the director of DHS to pay for programs and administrative costs associated with the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.  This fund currently has balance of $4,275,800 for FY 2001-2002.   

 

Provisions

·                      Appropriates $1,500,000 from the emergency medical services operating fund in FY 2001-2002 to DHS to distribute to rural areas for emergency medical services, subject to the availability of funds.

·                      Appropriates $200,000 in FY 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 from the emergency medical services operating fund to DHS to distribute to rural areas to cover the increasing costs of providing ambulance services.

SB 1201 passed the Health Committee amended as follows:

·                      Requires DHS to submit a written report regarding the expenditure of the $1,500,000 appropriation to the Legislature on or before November 15, 2002.
