SB 1188 exempts veterans from primary and secondary property tax.

 

History

 

Provisions

·                      Exempts veterans from taxation to the extent allowed by the Constitution of Arizona.

·                      Allows a $3,000 exemption if the person’s total assessment does not exceed $10,000.

·                      Exempts vehicles from the total assessment.

·                      Provides for the $3,000 exemption to apply independently to valuations determined for both primary and secondary property tax, and allows any unused portion of the exemption to apply to motor vehicle or watercraft taxes.

·                      States that an individual is not entitled to property tax exemptions that exceed the maximum allowed to a veteran under current law.

·                      Does not become effective unless the Constitution of Arizona is amended by vote of the people at the next general election.
