SB 1147 expands the definition of qualified first responder instructor to included persons tested and certified as a first responder by the National Safety Council or an equivalent organization.

History

Last year, HB 2482 was passed expanding the definition of first responder as an ambulance attendant who has been trained under the supervision of a qualified first responder instructor. Under current statute, qualified first responder instructor is defined as a person tested and certified as an instructor by the American Red Cross.  The American Red Cross is not the only organization that provides first responder instructor training and certification.

SB 1147 expands the definition of qualified first responder instructor to include persons tested and certified by the National Safety Council or an equivalent organization.

Provisions

·                      Expands the definition of qualified first responder instructor to include the National Safety Council or an equivalent organization.

·                      Removes the provision for communication by voice and telemetry under the provisions for a centralized medical direction communications center.
