As Passed the House

SB 1099 exempts the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) from the procurement code for the purchase of inmate store goods.

History

ADC provides an inmate store that inmates may visit once a week at which time they may spend a limited amount of money. During the holiday season, inmates are allowed to spend a higher amount in the store. Over 60 contracts have been awarded to supply items such as artificial sweetener, toothbrushes, food and clothing to the inmate store.

Currently, ADC is exempt from the procurement code for purchases of food commodities to be used in the preparation of meals for inmates.

SB 1099 passed the Public Institutions & Rural Affairs Committee unamended.
