juvenile justice
coordinating committee; extension
SB 1090 delays the repeal date for the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Committee (JJCC) until from and after December 31, 2002.
The Legislature established the JJCC in Laws 1999, Chapter 107. The purpose of the JJCC was to supervise and assist in the implementation of audit recommendations regarding juveniles who have been adjudicated delinquent submitted to the Legislature by the firm of Deloitte & Touche. The three main recommendations of the audit were (1) to prevent juveniles from re-entering the system, (2) get them back in school, and (3) make them productive members of adult society. The JJCC was also required to adopt policies for better coordination and dissemination of juvenile justice information between city, county and state agencies that deal with juvenile offenders, and submit an annual report concerning juvenile justice to the Governor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as to the Secretary of State and the Director of the Department of Library, Archives and Public Records. Currently, the JJCC act is repealed from and after December 31, 2001.
