SB 1027 continues the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council (Council) until July 1, 2011.

History

In 1976 the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council was established to review and make recommendations to the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) in the Department of Economic Security (DES) regarding many prevalent developmental disability (DD) issues.  The 12-member Council is comprised of ten voting members and two non-voting members.  The ten voting members, appointed by the governor, represent DD individuals, private sector agencies that provide DD services and DD advocacy organizations.  The two non-voting members are the Director of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Administration and the Assistant Director of DES - DDD.

Provisions

·                      Extends the Council until July 1, 2011.

·                      Repeals the statute that establishes the Council as of January 1, 2012.

·                      States that the purpose is to continue the Council to help DES – DDD establish, review and implement policies and programs for persons with developmental disabilities.

·                      Stipulates that provisions repealing the current termination date and establishing the new termination date are effective retroactively to July 1, 2001.
