SB 1003 expands the state’s National Guard counter-drug and drug reduction abilities.

 

History

The National Guard Mutual Assistance Counter-Drug Activities Compact was adopted in 1992 to engage in anti-drugs activities with the assistance of other states’ National Guard if necessary.

Provisions

·                      Allows the National Guard to engage in counter-drug and demand reduction activities per the Governor’s annual state plan.

·                      Eliminates the ability of National Guard volunteers to participate in drug interdictions.

·                      Allows the National Guard to enter into agreements pertaining to counter-drug activities with law enforcement agencies operating in this state.

·                      Permits the Arizona National Guard to enter into agreements with other states’ National Guard to conduct training and aerial counter-drug operations.

·                      Stipulates that the National Guard may engage in counter-drug and demand reduction activities on Indian reservation land if requested by a law enforcement agency or the appropriate tribal authorities.

·                      Repeals the National Guard Mutual Assistance Counter-Drug Activities Compact.
