HB 2553 appropriates $100,000 from the state general fund to the University of Arizona for a one-year telemedicine pilot program at a school district.

 

History

Telemedicine is the provision of medical services at a distance using either interactive video technologies or store-and-forward technologies (taking single, digital images or galleries of digital images, and sending them over the telecommunication system).  The program has its headquarters and hub in Tucson at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.  Currently, this program is being implemented in 24 rural sites around this state.

 

Provisions

·                      Appropriates $100,000 from the state general fund to the Arizona telemedicine program at the University of Arizona for the telemedicine pilot program.

 

·                      Requires the University of Arizona to enter into an agreement with a school district in a county with a population of more than two million persons to establish a one-year telemedicine pilot project to determine the effectiveness of using telemedicine technology in school health clinics.

 

·                      Requires that a written report of the findings and recommendations be submitted to the Governor, Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, Secretary of State and the Director of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records on or before November, 15, 2002.

 

·                      Requires this act to be repealed from and after December 15, 2002.
