            HB 2550 changes the Arizona Revised Statutes relating to time limitations for filing criminal complaints.

 

History

            Currently, only three crimes are exempt from a statute limiting the time to file a criminal complaint.  These crimes are as follows:

 

1.      Homicide.

2.      Misuse of public monies.

3.      Felony involving falsification of public records.

 

Provisions

·                      Adds sexual assault and sexual assault against a spouse to the class of prosecutions for which there are no time limitations for filing a complaint.

 

HB 2550 was amended in the Judiciary Committee as follows:

 

·                      Expands the scope of the bill to include any sexual offense or sexual exploitation of a minor that is a class 2 felony, as well as attempts to commit these crimes.
