HB 2549 provides a high school equivalency diploma to veterans over the age of 65 who have never received a high school diploma due to military service.

 

Provisions

·                      Provides a high school equivalency diploma to a person who has never obtained a high school diploma and meets the following requirements:

 

·                      Is at least sixty-five years of age;

 

·                      Currently resides in this state;

 

·                      Provides documented evidence that the person enlisted in the armed forces of the United States before completing high school in a public or a private school;

 

·                      Was honorably discharged from service with the armed forces of the United States.

 

·                      Requires the diploma received to be an honorary diploma.

 

·                      Stipulates that the evidence of being enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States be obtained from the Arizona Department of Veterans Services.

 

·                      Requires a five-year window for rules to be adopted and diplomas to be issued.
