As Passed the House

HB 2536 removes the requirements for persons to submit their social security numbers when applying for a marriage license or to enter into a covenant marriage.

History

Current statute requires persons wishing to marry to apply to the clerk of the superior court for a license, and the persons must sign an affidavit under oath.  The affidavit must state the names, ages, social security numbers and places of residence of both persons wishing to marry.  For covenant marriages, the husband and wife must submit their names and social security numbers in a sworn statement to the clerk of the superior court.  HB 2536 removes the requirement that social security numbers be provided for both marriage licenses and covenant marriages.
