HB 2533 appropriates $6,959,590 from the state general fund in fiscal year (FY) 2001-02 to the Department of Economic Security (DES) for the construction of Navajo senior centers, and $4 million in FY 2002-03 for the construction of senior centers with the condition that the Navajo Nation provides $2 million, and $400,000 in FY 2002-03 for the construction of the villages of Tewa and Bacavi.

 

Provisions

·                      Appropriates $6,180,000 from the state general fund in FY 2001-02 to the Department of Economic Security for the construction of Navajo senior centers in Teesto, LeChee, Low Mountain, Fort Defiance, Rough Springs, Bird Springs, Dennehotso, Dilcon, Mexican Water, Cove, Blue Gap, Greaswood Springs, Chilchinbeto, White Cone, Sweetwater, Wide Ruins and Hard Rock.

·                      Appropriates $779,590 from the state general fund in fiscal year 2001-02 to the DES for the construction of senior centers in Kykotsmovi, Hotevilla, and First Mesa Co.

·                      Appropriates $4 million in FY 2002-2003 for the construction of senior centers with the condition that the Navajo Nation provides $2 million.

·                      Appropriates $400,000 from the state general fund in fiscal year 2002-03 to the DES for the construction of the villages Tewa and Bacani.

·                      Prohibits the DES, the Navajo Nation or the Hopi Nation from using the appropriated monies to pay for administrating costs associated with the senior centers.

·                      Exempts the appropriations from lapsing.

 

 

HB 2533 was amended in the Native American Affairs Committee as follows:

·                      Appropriates $1,580,000 in FY 2001-02 to the DES for the construction of Navajo senior centers in Teesto, LeChee, Low Mountain, Fort Defiance, Rough Springs and Bird Springs.

·                      Appropriates $4,600,000 to the DES in FY 2002-03 for the construction of Navajo senior centers in Dennehotso, Dilcon, Mexican Water, Cove, Blue Gap, Greaswood Springs, Chilchinbeto, White Cone, Sweetwater, Wide Ruins, and Hard Rock.

·                      Provides for an appropriation of $300,000 to the DES in FY 2001-02 for a construction of a Hopi senior center in Kykotsmovi.

·                      Provides for an appropriation of $479,590 to the DES in FY 2002-03 for a construction of two Hopi senior centers in Hotevilla and First Mesa Co.

·                      Removes the appropriation of $4 million in FY 2002-03 to the DES for the construction of Navajo senior centers.

·                      Removes the appropriation of $400,000 in FY 2002-03 to the DES for the construction of the villages of Tewa and Bacavi.

 

HB 2533 was amended in the Appropriations Committee as follows:

·                      Reduces the FY 2001-02 general fund appropriation of monies for the construction of Navajo senior centers from $6,959,590 to $1,500,000.

·                      Deletes the specific list of Navajo senior centers to be built with the monies appropriated.

·                      Reduces the FY 2002-2003 appropriation to DES for the construction of Navajo senior centers from $4,000,000 to $2,500,000.

·                      Removes the FY 2002-2003 appropriation of $400,000 for the construction of the villages of Tewa and Bacavi.

·                      Eliminates the FY 2001-2002 appropriation of $779,590 for the construction of Hopi senior centers in Kykotsmovi, Hotevilla, and First Mesa Co.

·                      Makes other conforming changes.

 

The Appropriations Committee amendment was adopted in the Committee of the Whole.
