HB 2531 appropriates $6 million in each of the fiscal years 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 to the department of Health Services from the tobacco settlement monies.

Provisions

·                      Appropriates the amount of $6 million in each of the fiscal years 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 to the department of Health Services from the tobacco settlement monies, once a settlement is achieved.

·                      Provides that the appropriated monies be distributed to state accredited, nonprofit hospital organizations that operate on a Native American reservation with population of more than 15,000 persons.

·                      Stipulates that the appropriated monies include $4 million per fiscal year for Sage memorial hospital, $1 million per fiscal year for Dennehotso health center and $1 million per fiscal year for Chilchinbeto.

·                      Exempts the appropriations from lapsing.

 

HB 2531 passed the Committee on Native American Affairs unamended.

HB 2531 was amended in the Health Committee as follows:

 

·                      Changes appropriation from $6,000,000 from tobacco settlement monies over four fiscal years to $5,000,000 from the state general fund over two fiscal years.

·                      Provides that the appropriated monies be given to nonprofit hospital organizations that provide services to the reservation instead of on the reservation.  Sage Memorial Hospital is not located on an Indian Reservation.

·                      Removes the $1,000,000 appropriation for Chilchinbeto.
