HB 2511 establishes a study committee to examine the use of public monitoring devices and related legislation in other states and countries.

 

Provisions

·                    Creates a study committee to examine the use of public monitoring devices, potential guidelines for public monitoring devices, and legislation on public monitoring devices in other states.

 

·                    Specifies that the public monitoring devices study committee will have the following members:

§         Two members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House,

§         Two members of the Senate appointed by the President of the Senate,

§         Two public members appointed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives,

§         One member representing the Department of Transportation appointed by the Governor,

§         One member representing the Department of Public Safety appointed by the Governor,

§         One member appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court,

§         One member representing local law enforcement and is appointed by the Governor,

§         One member representing the retail grocery industry and is appointed by the President of the Senate,

§         One member representing the banking industry and is appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

 

·                    Requires that the committee submit a report to Speaker of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate, and Governor by December 1, 2001.

 

·                    Contains a delayed repeal date of December 31, 2001.
