House Bill 2496 requires the director of the division for children in the governor’s office to forward all monies from the prevention of child abuse fund to a private foundation on an annual basis.

 

Background

Laws 1999, Chapter 71 required that beginning no later than January 1, 2000, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) issue child abuse prevention special plates.  Section 28-2402 establishes the required fee for original special plates and renewal of special plates at twenty-five dollars.  Of the twenty-five dollars, eight dollars is considered an administrative fee to be deposited in the state highway fund and seventeen dollars is considered a donation to be deposited in the prevention of child abuse fund that is administered by the Director of the Division for Children in the Governor’s Office.  The fund is continuously appropriated and is exempt from provisions relating to lapsing of appropriations.  The Director of the Division for Children shall allocate monies to a private foundation that guarantees matching the monies.

 

Provisions

·                      Requires the director of the division for children to forward all the monies in the prevention of child abuse fund, excluding administrative fees, to the private foundation on an annual basis.

·                      Strikes language that required a statewide entity have documented experience in promoting awareness of child abuse prevention as a condition of receiving monies from a private foundation.

·                      Makes a technical and conforming change.
