HB 2436 adds resource management to the duties of cooperative agricultural extension work.

History

The Smith-Lever Act, passed by the U.S. Congress in 1914, provided federal funds to establish and support extension work conducted by the states’ land grant colleges and universities. In 1915 the Arizona legislature authorized the Board of Regents to receive monies apportioned to the state under the Smith-Lever Act, and to organize and conduct agricultural extension work from the University of Arizona’s College of Agriculture.  Extension programs provide education outside the classroom to bring research knowledge to the public in all fifteen Arizona counties.

Under current law, extension work provides for publications and practical demonstrations in agriculture and home economics.

Provisions

·                    Adds resource management to the responsibilities of cooperative agricultural extension work.

·                    Makes technical and conforming changes.
