As Passed the House

HB 2418 places a limit on the number of arguments a person, organization or political committee may sponsor in the Secretary of State’s publicity pamphlet for each ballot measure.

History

Current Arizona law does not cap the number of arguments that may be submitted for printing in the publicity pamphlet distributed by the Secretary of State.

Provisions

·                      Removes requirement that sample ballots for the primary election include information on how to obtain a publicity pamphlet from the Secretary of State.

·                      Changes language to specify that the chairman of an initiative or referendum committee will file the petition with the Secretary of State.

·                      Prohibits a person, organization or political committee from sponsoring or paying for more than one argument for or against each ballot measure.

·                      Limits the number of words per argument to 200.

·                      Makes technical and conforming changes.

HB 2418 passed the Judiciary Committee unamended.
