HB 2371 requires unlicensed persons performing jobs to include the words not a licensed contractor in their advertisements.

History

The Arizona Registrar of Contractors (Registrar) oversees the licensing and regulatory system of contractors to promote quality construction. Current law exempts persons engaged in contracting work of a minor nature from the Registrar’s licensure requirements, if the price of their work is less than $750.

The strike-everything amendment to HB 2371 is additionally requiring said persons to advertise that they are not licensed contractors.

Provisions

· Requires persons who are exempt from the licensure requirements of the Registrar and who utilize advertising to disclose to the public that they are unlicensed by including not a licensed contractor in their advertising.

· States that persons who are not exempt from the licensure requirements are subject to prosecution for a violation of the Consumer Fraud Act, and the Attorney General may investigate and take the appropriate action.

· Specifies that a contracting license shall have the acronym ROC printed before the license number.
