HB 2354 establishes the County Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute Settlement Fund.

Provisions

·                      Establishes the County Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute Settlement Fund.

·                      Provides that the fund consists of the monies received by the state from the United States as a result of the Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute Settlement Act of 1996.

·                      Requires that the state treasurer shall administer the fund as a continuing appropriation.

·                      Stipulates that the state treasurer shall invest the monies in the fund and shall credit to the fund all monies earned from the investment.

·                      Mandates that the state treasurer shall pay each year to each county a share of the fund monies earned from the investment.

·                      Specifies that the share of the funds that will distributed to the counties shall be determined in consultation between the state treasurer and the counties and it will be based on the percentage of total land that each county lost from the removal of the Tribal property from the tax rolls as a result of the Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute Settlement Act of 1996.

·                      Exempts the appropriation from lapsing.

·                      Contains an emergency clause.
