HB 2297 appropriates $5,400,000 to the Department of Economic Security for temporary assistance for needy family services of the Navajo Nation.

Provisions

·                      Appropriates $5,400,000 from the state general fund in each of the fiscal years 2001-02 and 2002-03 to the Department of Economic Security (DES).

·                      Provides that the appropriated monies be used for the constructing of offices for the Navajo Nation temporary assistance for needy family services in Chinle, Fort Defiance and Newlands (Sanders) in Apache County, in Tuba City and Kayenta in Coconino County, and in Dilkon in Navajo county.

·                      Requires the approval of the appropriations by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

·                      Makes the appropriation conditioned on the withdrawal of land by the Navajo Nation for each office site, where applicable.

·                       Stipulates that if the appropriated monies are to be used for the construction or leasing of offices, the Navajo Nation and the DES shall submit the estimated cost and other related information to the Joint Committee on Capital Review or the JLBC for review before the contract is executed.

·                      Allows for the monies remaining unexpected for any of the offices to be reallocated for any of the other offices.

·                      Exempts the appropriations from lapsing until June 30, 2004.
